Battling Depression by Living in the Moment

Beatrice Nirmala

What we should but dont seem to talk about are the growing depression and anxiety amongst citizens during these tumultous times. And the alarming number of suicides.

If life was hard enough before - managing careers and family and oneself - now with lockdowns, loss of jobs, and a whole new loss of freedom and change of life as we knew it, many have a growing unease, uncertainty and anxiousness of where is this all going?

People sink into depression and anxiety, and worse they cannot show it openly to family, friends, colleagues or bosses for fear of stigma, or shame.

So they battle the fear inside with a smile outside. Desperately trying to get over it.

Happiness and confidence does not come on at a flick of some inherent switch.

It begins with an awareness of what makes you feel this way. And that is 50% of the battle done.

Then liberate yourself by understanding that these feelings of doubt, fear, low self esteem, are just conditionings from the past and present that you carry throughout your life, as unnecessary excess baggage.

But they do not define you.

YOU are the master of your destiny and the captain of your ship.

Remember this :

1. Never lose hope. You WILL get better and stronger. Just keep working on yourself one day at a time.

2. Let go of the past. You cannot change your past nor predict your future. Simplify life by focusing on the present.

3. Create happiness. There is so much to be happy about - just build this happiness from within by remembering all you have to be grateful for and smile from within. Its infectious, the rest of you will feel happy, in the phenomenon of natural resonance.

4. Change the filter at which you view the world and you, will change your life.

5. You are more powerful, smarter and resilient than you give yourself credit for.
